LAND PARK ACADEMY

Land Park Academy provides special education instruction for children diagnosed on the autism spectrum with a focus on pre-academics, functional academics, recreation and leisure, social, communication, and community based and independent living skills using Applied Behavior Analysis principles and incidental and natural teaching opportunities. Various assessments, curriculum, and teaching methodologies are utilized to determine current levels of functioning and to develop individualized goals and objectives to meet areas of need. Functional skills development is the primary focus for most students, and while referring to the California Standards as educational resources and utilizing the SEACO adapted standards for learners with challenges for the development of age- appropriate goals and objectives, we also recognize each student's unique learning abilities and implement various strategies to support learning.

Group and classroom skills are targeted to support students for potential success in public school settings. Behavior excesses that interfere with a student's ability to acquire new skills or to remain productive in a classroom setting will be addressed through positive intervention programming, focused on prevention and the teaching of functionality equivalent alternate skills.

Land Park Academy offers direct and consultive Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy, and all students receive physical education daily, supported by an Adaptive Physical Education Specialist who may also serve individual students directly based on IEP related services. Sensory issues are believed to affect the quality of many students' learning and learning abilities and are addressed routinely and through a variety of supportive methods. Co-treatment, involving the coordinated provision of services by more than one therapists/specialist, may occur for students who are deemed to benefit from this type of service.

Placement of students at Land Park Academy will be made through the joint cooperation of each students' home district, the student's IEP Team and IEP Team recommendations, and Land Park Academy itself. All students attending Land Park Academy will enter with the ultimate goal of transitioning to a less restrictive environment. This transition will occur when the IEP Team is in agreement that the students had achieved the agreed upon goals and possesses the skills to potentially be successful in another setting.

Our ultimate goal for our students is maximal independent functioning while experiencing a high quality life.
