Functional/Adaptive Programs

Life Adaptive Skills Training (LAST)
The CAS LAST program is designed for children ages 6 to 14 years of age.

CAS LAST programs actively target an increase in functional skills within daily routines through teaching across a wide range of domain areas. Direct parent involvement is required during the initial assessment and continues throughout the child’s program to generalize skills to the natural home routines of the family. A heavy emphasis is placed on the teaching of behaviorally-based parenting skills to support new skills and the “maintenance” of skills acquired during program, with the goal of improving overall quality of life. The following areas are assessed and goals are developed as needed:

  • Critical functional communication skills
  • Leisure skills
  • Social skills
  • Independent living and self care skills
  • Community skills
  • Behavior Management
  • Parent Training Support

The LAST program is unique in that increasing independence with the parents and caregivers is the priority. The parents and caregivers will increase their independence in the areas of identifying appropriate teaching targets, implementing effective teaching strategies, providing structure and routines, implementing motivational strategies, implementing behavior management techniques, and problem solving. The LAST program is a behaviorally-based program that places a strong emphasis on teaching in, or generalizing to, naturalistic settings as quickly and effectively as possible.

Services provided through our LAST program can be delivered via a traditional, multi-tiered staff model, or through a direct Trainer to Trainer model. The Trainer to Trainer model allows families to work directly with our Consulting professionals to maximize teachable moments within the child’s daily routines to successfully implement program objectives.
