JumpStart Early Intervention Program
JumpStart is designed to address the social interactions of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by providing intensive parent training and support to interpret and respond to their child’s cues, facilitate interaction, and to identify and fully utilize daily learning opportunities. Equipping parents with these applied behavior tools is essential to the success of early intervention. Current research studies show that children with ASD who receive parent-implemented programs demonstrate improvements in social communication and interaction, joint attention, imitation, and play skills. (Ingersoll & Dvortcsak 2010)
The Need for Early Intervention
Young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) frequently have difficulty initiating and maintaining social interactions. These difficulties lead to a decrease in learning opportunities across the day. When parents initiate social exchanges with the young child with ASD, the child often does not respond with pleasure, eye contact, or laughter. Often times this lack of reinforcing response from the child can decrease the parent’s attempts at learning-based interaction. During this critical time in early development increasing daily learning opportunities is vital.
